JEKYLL & HYDE
Saxes, Swing and a Rock 'n' Roll Swagger
In 2016 Grant's third collaboration with Olivier award-winning director and choreographer Drew McOnie was Jekyll & Hyde at the Old Vic. Building on the success of DRUNK, a dance and song cycle for the McOnie company, Jekyll & Hyde was Grant's first foray into a full length dance piece.
With a phenomenally talented company of twelve dancers, the show based on Robert Louis Stevenson's original novel updated the setting to 1950's London and managed to be sexy, thrilling and utterly terrifying.
Grant's score; recorded by twelve of London's best musicians at Air Edel studios, flipped between big band swing (representing Dr Jekyll) and stripped out rock (representing My Hyde), with a cinematic sweep and a creative use of found sound all adding up to a highly original and contemporary sounding score. An hour's worth of music from the show was released on Air Edel records and can be downloaded from all the usual vendors.
